In recent weeks more and more information has slowly become available regarding the highly anticicapted, yet-to-be-released Windows 8 operating system.
From the positive first impressions it has set to news that the blue screen of death has been redesigned, Windows 8 is set to radically change the way Microsoft’s flagship OS is perceived.
Now, in a recent MSDN blog post, Microsoft’s Windows divisional chief Steve Sinofsky has promised much faster boot times for Windows 8.
Since research data shows that more than half of all PC users shut down their machines rather than putting them to sleep, Microsoft has maintained a focus on faster boot times so PC users spend less idle time waiting to use their PC after turning it on. They even have a new video showing a test system booting Windows 8 in just two seconds.
Granted the computer in the test is quite optimized, complete with a Solid State Disk drive (SSD), the news underscores the company’s determination to solve this issue.is determined to cut the time spent by most users waiting for their machines to become usable.
“We designed Windows 8 so that you shouldn’t have to boot all that often (and we are always going to work on reducing the number of required restarts due to patching running code),” stated Sinofsky.
“But when you do boot we want it to be as fast as possible. This is a very deep topic and we have a lot of folks focused on it. We made a bigger leap in this area with Windows 8 than we have in a long time due in no small part to cooperation across the whole ecosystem,” he added.
The post goes on to outline some of the goals the team wanted to accomplish and explain the solution that has been developed.
Currently a release date for Windows 8 has not yet been set. We here at Free Computer Maintenance cannot wait for the day we spend less idle time waiting for our PCs to boot each day.
